If you’re looking to start off the day full of physical energy and mental clarity, why not consider your first proper meal of the day to be a nutrition-packed smoothie? Breakfast smoothies can be made with just fruit, but if you really want something that’ll get you going, green smoothies are exactly what your body and mind need!
Combining multiple foods to make a green smoothie can taste so heavenly! But if I’m being honest with you, I’ve also made a few smoothies that never turned out so well. It takes a bit of trial and error to know what foods combine well and what foods to never mix together!
Once you’ve got it down though, you can judge it by eye with regards to the amount of each food to put in and you’ll develop a better understanding of how to make the most awesome smoothies ever.
If you’re the adventurous type and you want to combine lots of foods and make more complex smoothie recipes, it can be costly if you start experimenting (I know, I’ve done it!). Luckily, there resources out there like this E-Book which has lots of recipes for you to try out.
How drinking smoothies for breakfast can kickstart your day
Now, aside from tasting great, there are plenty of benefits to drinking smoothies for breakfast! Let’s discuss some of them.
1. Easy and fast for busy people who don’t have much time in the morning
Do you find yourself some mornings in a mad rush to get everything sorted before you have to rush out the door for work or to take the kids to school? And you don’t have time to make any breakfast?
Smoothies are great because you can make lots of them in one go and them store them in the refrigerator or freezer and just bring them out as needed.
If you store a smoothie in the fridge, it’ll only last one or two days typically – so keep that in mind. And if you want to store smoothies in the freezer long-term, you’ll have to make sure you create a vacuum seal so that they keep fresh and are not exposed to air.
So now any time that you’re in a rush, you just bring a smoothie out of the fridge and take it with you in the car on the way to work or if you’re out walking.
Just make sure that you have a sealable lid and you use a straw. You don’t want to have an accident and have the smoothie go all over your clothes or car!
2. They provide a lot of energy and nutrition in a small meal that won’t make you bloated for hours
Have you ever had a monster breakfast and then you try to get up off the chair and you’re almost hunched over because you’ve just eaten too much food?
We’ve all been there!
The great thing about smoothies is that they are so easy to digest! It’s why I recommend smoothies for people who are just starting a vegan diet or those who are experiencing some kind of digestive issue or stomach pain.
Smoothies provide you with lots of quickly available energy in the form of fruit sugars, while also giving you some protein and essential fats.
In just a small and compact meal, you’re also consuming more fruits and vegetables than many people would consume in an entire week! They’re loaded with important vitamins, minerals, and fats that your body needs in order to stay healthy.
Smoothies are also super easy to digest because of the natural plant enzymes that help break down the foods. And the blender also does a great job to break down the cell walls of the fruits and veggies and increases the availability of some nutrients so you can absorb them better.
After drinking a smoothie for breakfast you won’t be weighed down for hours or feel sluggish. You’ll feel alive! You’ll feel energized and ready for the day ahead!
Here’s a tip: Add blueberries to your smoothie. The phytonutrients in blueberries keep blood sugar steady.
3. Smoothies are great for people who struggle to maintain a healthy diet throughout their day
As people go through their day, things happen that can cause us to not be able to stick to a really healthy diet. We often don’t consistently make the best choices for our bodies’ as our day gets more busy and stressful.
Maybe you travel a lot and it’s not always easy to find a good place to eat out that is healthy.
Perhaps you’ve just finished a long shift and you’re too tired to make a healthy meal so you throw something quick in the microwave.
There can be so many reasons.
I encourage people to start their day off with a green smoothie because it ensures that their most important meal of the day is the most healthy one. In the morning, you are able to better digest the food that you eat and assimilate the nutrients.
Drinking a green smoothie for breakfast ensures that no matter what happens during the rest of the day, you will have eaten more than the recommended daily portions of fruits and vegetables.
You’ll also begin to recognize the many benefits of drinking green smoothies on the way you feel and perform. If you feel great all morning and then you eat something bad later in the day, it’ll become clearer to you how certain food choices can really impact the way you feel in your body and mind.
If all you do is just consume that green smoothie in the morning, you’re likely consuming far more plant foods than most people would in a da. And you’re making decisions that will benefit you later on.
4. Smoothies can help reduce food cravings
If you’re trying to keep your weight down or even actively lose weight, green smoothies are great for helping control your junk food cravings so you can achieve this.
They contain lots of fiber and give you enough energy that will sustain you until your next meal.
When I first started eating a 70% raw food diet, I’d consume green smoothies every morning. They’d be so satisfying to drink, I felt less temptation to eat bad foods.
Green smoothies are just a great way for any person currently on a plant-based diet or someone who wants to move towards a healthy way of living.
5. Improves your hydration levels
Green smoothies are mostly comprised of water, so drinking a green smoothie every morning will get you on your way to consuming your 6-8 glasses of water that you need to stay hydrated.
Did you know that many people don’t drink enough water? If you’re feeling low on energy and have dull-looking skin, drinking green smoothies will help give that glow back!
One of the first benefits of drinking smoothies in the morning is the effect it has on your skin. You might start noticing a healthy glow within days.
dude, look at the microplastic-choked bottle the smoothie bottle is in
That plastic jug was throw out a LONG time ago. This is an old photo… just used it as I don’t have a decent camera right now lol.
This was a very inspiring article! I wanted to mention another benefit to having green smoothies for breakfast is its benefits to help reverse pre diabetes. I never drank green smoothies before reading this article. I always thought eating the real vegetable was superior. Well your article was so inspiring that I said to myself let me see what this green smoothie excitement is all about!!! I made a smoothie with frozen broccoli (no ice cubes needed), kale, spinach and 1/4 cup wild blueberries and water. I drink this first thing in the am before my breakfast. My glucose is better than ever (from low 90’s to 70’s), I feel less hungry throughout the day, and I feel my body is absorbing the nutrients better. Plus, who wouldn’t feel better eating kale, spinach and broccoli first thing. The berries add a nice little brain boost without sugar. Thank you!
